The Clipstream™ Video Advanced Settings Window
Use the Advanced Settings window to be able to encode a time range, crop the dimensions of a video, disable audio pitch detection, embed a security (SID) code, embed the Codekey authorization, and add one of the many dozens of extra encoder switches to tweak the output .vcs video.

Access the Advanced Settings Window

1. Launch the Encoder.
2. Click on the Settings button.

The Advanced Settings Window will popup.

What you can do in the Advanced Settings Window

  • Encode a time range - By setting a stop and start number in seconds you can encode a portion of the original source video. This is useful for starting after a color bar or leader or to cut out an ending graphic.
  • Crop dimensions - By inputting a number of pixels into a Top, Left, Bottom and Right field you can cut out letterboxing, fringes or edge artifacts.
  • Disable pitch detection - Used occasionally for better music samples.
  • Security SID - If you are securing content, you can embed the SID code into your applet in this field.
  • Codekey - Embed your Codekey authorization in this field so that it appears in your applet.
  • Enable switches in encoding - There are several dozen switches you can enable in the encoding that will tweak the output video (ex. brightness, boost volume, etc.). Enter these into the field and they will be added onto the encode.
Note: these options do not alter your original source video, only the output.

Time Range Selection

Begin - To start encoding after a number of seconds from the start of the source video:
  • Click in the field beside "Begin" and enter in a number in seconds.
End - To end your encoding before the end of the source video:
  • Click in the field beside "End" and enter in a number of seconds from the start of the source video you want to encode (including any portion you wanted taken out from the beginning).
Note: A minute is counted as 60 seconds.

Video Margins / Cropping

  • In each field enter in the number of pixels from the Left, Top, Right, and Bottom edges of your source video that you want to exclude from your output.
Tip: Use a screen capture utility or graphic editing program to count the pixels exactly.

Security (SID)

This field is used if you have been issued a security codekey (SID). Skip if you do not. The SID enables you to lock content to your website and disable playback even if someone downloads the files.

To enable the SID:
  1. Uncheck the box marked Disable.
  2. Paste the key given to you into the Security ID field.
When you encode now the SID will be embedded into your applet code.

Note: In the Main Window make sure that Generate HTML code when finished encoding is checked.

Learn more about our Clipstream SID security in our Clipstream™ Video Security page.

Code Key

The Code Key is how your Clipstream™ Video movie is authorized for playback on your web server. If you are just testing it, you can see your video without authorization but it will have a flashing logo image imposed over the video on your webserver. Licensing removes the logo.

To embed the Code Key authorization in your applet:
  1. Uncheck the box beside Evaluation.
  2. Paste the Code Key provided to you into the field marked Code Key.
When you encode now the Code Key will be embedded into your applet code.

Note: In the Main Window make sure that Generate HTML code when finished encoding is checked.

Tip: If you are encoding a large number of clips, there is a more efficient way of authorizing all of your applets. Look at our Licensing Clipstream™ Video 2.5 page.

Extra Encoder Switches

In the field at the very bottom is a place where you can add a variety of switches to your encode. These switches can adjust certain qualities in your encode output.

Note: A more extensive discussion of these switches is in our Command Line Encoding page.

To add switches to the encode:
  • Click in the Extra Encoder Parameters field and type in the letter of the switch preceded by a - (minus sign).
Note: to add more than one switch, separate them with single space. See the example below:
