Use the Clipstream™ File Size Calculator to determine the ultimate file sizes of your encoded media. Also try out the formula below to determine other values such as the actual bandwidth requirements to stream an encoded file. When designing a serving solution for Clipstream™, it is important to take into account the amount of storage space that will be needed for your Clipstream files. The following formula is only an approximation but is fairly accurate.

The Clipstream™ File Size Calculator uses this formula:

Connection speed bit rate (kbps) x file length (seconds) / 8 = file size (KB)

For example: A 2.5 minute clip encoded for playback at modem speed (40kbps) would be no larger than 750 KB: 150 x 40 / 8 = 750

Here are some other examples for a 30 second file:

20 kbps: 75 KB
40 kbps: 150 KB
128 kbps: 480 KB
300 kbps: 1125 KB
500 kbps: 1875 KB

If you would like to pre-load a video prior to playback, to calculate the download time it would be a ratio:

Clipstream™ Video file encoded at *** kbps divided by connection speed *** kbps multiplied by the file length in seconds = download time.

Example:
vcs at 200 kbps / 40 kbps x 30 seconds = 150

A 30 second file encoded at 200 kbps should be approximately 2 and a half minutes for a modem to pre-load.
